About/Media
Hello and welcome to my site, my name is Peter Minakis and here’s where you will find some basic info on this site. First of all, allow me to tell you what “Kalofagas” means. In Greek, it’s a “gourmet”. I am a Canadian of Greek descent, born here in Toronto. I’m a financial advisor, love traveling (especially to Greece), I have pet cockatiels who are also prolific breeders, enjoy a quiet night at home or going out to be a tourist in my own city. In case you haven’t wondered…I love food and this will become more evident as I write my installments.
All the food (unless otherwise noted) has been cooked by me, and photos are now been captured with a Canon Powershot S90. Earlier photos in the blog were taken with a Canon Powershot A530.
Media/Events/Product/Samples/Reviews/Travel
Although this site focuses on Greek and Mediterranean food, I do also like to eat my way through Toronto, surrounding areas and of course Canada and the United States. Here at home in Toronto, I consider myself a “tourist in my own town” discovering the food and entertainment scene that seems to be changing every day.
I welcome invites to attend openings of new restaurants, eateries, taverns, markets and diners, hotels and bars, clubs and other venues in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). If you have a new product that you would like me sample/review, I am open to your suggestions. I’d love to cover an event/milestone for your venue or establishment and I do travel! Contact me (Peter Minakis) at truenorth67 AT gmail dot com.
I do not accept nor post/publish “canned” blog posts nor am I willing to entertain offers. Everything on this blog is written by me and I do not see this changing.
I love learning about new cultures, their cuisines, food, ingredient, cooking techniques and new recipes. If you have a food-related book or cookbook you would like me to review, I’m game!
Catering/Events/Cooking
Recently began selling Greek street food to over 1500 guests/attendees at the Toronto Underground Market
I also do catering for dinner parties to larger gatherings. Looking for someone to cook that Greek feast for you? You need something from this site cooked for you on a large scale? I can help. If you’re a restaurant looking to overhaul your menu, I’d love to be part of the process. I am also keen on cooking demonstrations featuring some of the most authentic and delicious Greek recipes out there. Contact me (Peter Minakis) at truenorth67 AT gmail dot com.
Have a look at “An Evening in Greece’, a dinner event I organized with Toronto’s Estiatorio Malena.
Another glowing recount of my dinner at Estiatorio Malena.
